About geography/ESP

The mission of the Department of Geography at the University of South Florida is threefold:

  • To conduct cutting-edge research
  • To provide exceptional, quality education at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • To serve the region, community, and the university

Located in one of the most dynamic urban centers in the country, and one of the most fragile landscapes in the world, the department uses the region as a laboratory for analyzing many problems that confront our society. The department also conducts research in many other settings in North America and throughout the world (particularly Latin America and South Asia). Specific teaching and research foci include urban geography, hazards, health, karst landscapes, meteorology, international development, and technical applications including geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and statistics.
