About Secondary Education

The Department of Secondary Education houses six programs that offer degrees ranging from baccalaureate to doctoral and include graduate certificates as well.  English Education offers degrees at the Bachelors, Masters (including an MAT), Ph.D. levels, and a Graduate Certificate.  Students interested in Foreign Language Education/ESOL can pursue degrees at the Bachelors and Masters (including an MAT) levels.  In addition, we offer a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition/Instructional Technology (SLA/IT) - a unique, interdisciplinary program between the Colleges of Education and Arts & Sciences.

Our Instructional Technology program offers degrees at the Masters, Educational Specialist, and Ph.D. levels, as well as six Graduate Certificates.  Students who wish to pursue an advanced degree in Mathematics Education after they finish their Bachelors degree can move on to a Masters (including an MAT) or a Ph.D., or can consider a Graduate Certificate.

Our Science Education program offers degrees at the Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. levels. Our Social Science Education has three degree levels available -- Bachelors, Masters (including an MAT), Ph.D. -- as well as a Graduate Certificate.

We also offer courses for ESOL endorsement requirements. Our faculty integrates contemporary theoretical and practical approaches to learning in order to address the diverse interests and needs of our students.  Courses are taught in both campus-based and distance-learning formats to meet the learning needs of school and non-school personnel.
