About Special Education
The Department of Special Education awards degrees at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels. The undergraduate program leads to certification in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) and an endorsement in ESOL.
The MA program offers concentration areas in Behavior Disorders, Learning Disabilities, Mental Retardation, and Exceptional Student Education. The Master’s of Arts in Teaching (MAT) accelerated degree program can be completed in two summers and three academic semesters. It leads to certification in ESE and ESOL endorsement. Individuals interested in Gifted Education can enroll in our two-year, online master's program – Florida’s only, entirely online, fully accredited MA in Gifted Education and one of the nation’s few such programs. A fully online Graduate Certificate in Gifted Education is also offered.
The Ph.D. program focuses on urban special education and university-school partnerships in preparing researchers and teacher educators. For information on scholarship opportunities, please visit our scholarship website.
