About Mental Health Law And Policy
The mission of the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy (MHLP) is to provide research, consultation, and training needed to help improve services that have implications for the justice system, behavioral health systems, and public policy. The department provides special expertise in areas of mental health and substance abuse issues within the justice system; community-based services for persons who have mental illness; analysis of policy issues related to funding, delivery, and outcomes of public behavioral health services; and implementation of evidence-based practices related to behavioral health services.
An ongoing goal of MHLP is to build partnerships, including those at USF and with professional colleagues and organizations outside of USF, including state and federal agencies and national foundations. These partnerships provide an important vehicle for developing new knowledge, testing out models, sharing information, and learning from our diverse constituents.
