The University of South Florida strives to minimize asbestos risks to its faculty, staff, and students. This is accomplished through proper identification and management of asbestos containing materials inside and outside of campus buildings.
Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous mineral that has been used extensively in many types building materials. Asbestos containing materials in an undisturbed and undamaged state are not considered to be hazardous.
Under no circumstances will any faculty, staff, or students be allowed to disturb any asbestos containing material. Florida licensed asbestos consultants perform surveys to identify asbestos containing materials prior to maintenance, renovation, and demolition activities.
