The Business Analytics and Information Systems major provides the skills and knowledge necessary for business and data analytics, information systems development and support positions in both business and non-business organizations.

This major takes the place of the MIS major, to learn about the differences and how it will affect current MIS students view these frequently asked questions.

Requirements for the Major

In addition to university degree and business core requirements, students must complete 24 credit hours in area study courses.

Required Core Courses (18 credit hours)

The following courses are required courses that must be taken by all Business Analytics and Information Systems majors:

*ISM 3232 (Business Application Development) is recommended to be taken before, or concurrently with, ISM 3113 (Systems Analysis and Design).

Business Analytics and Information Systems Electives (9 credit hours)

Three courses from the following list of area study electives.

Students should see an advisor for a list of other approved upper-level area studies courses

What Kinds of Jobs are There for Business Analytics and Information Systems Majors?

Students with a Business Analytics and Information Systems major are prepared to enter the rapidly changing world of business analytics and information systems. Potential career paths include data analyst, business intelligence analyst, business analyst, consulting, systems analyst, database administrator, project manager or a myriad of technology management roles in business.

Cybersecurity Concentration

Total major and concentration hours: 24

A student may choose to major in Business Analytics and Information Systems only or may choose to major in Business Analytics and Information Systems with a concentration in Cybersecurity.
