Consultation Services for Faculty, Staff and Administrators
The Counseling Center and Employee Assistance Program offer psychological consultation and liaison relationships with academic departments, campus groups, individual faculty, staff and administrators, and a variety of University divisions upon request.

Organizational Consultation

Consultation services assist faculty, staff and administrators in their efforts to contribute to an effective learning environment for students. Collaborative liaison relationships with administrative units, academic departments and campus programs facilitate the early identification of and effective intervention with students and employees manifesting emotional and/or behavioral concerns. Consultation services may include individual and departmental interventions, crisis debriefings, group facilitations, emergency interventions, student referrals and psycho-educational programming. On-site individual consultation-prevention services play a significant role in alleviating sources of stress within the environment which detract from student, faculty and staff effectiveness, productivity and satisfaction.

Learning Community Intervention

The College & Community Liaison Program was developed in an effort to directly benefit the educator in his/her role as faculty, staff and administrator in the event of an unanticipated crisis. A Counseling Center consultant is available for on-site assistance in discussing the traumatic or disruptive event and its impact on a class or an organization. Administrators, faculty and staff are encouraged to invite a liaison representative, to committee and department meetings to briefly introduce the Program, and to identify proactive and crisis campus resources. Center professionals are also available to organize proactive psycho-educational workshops and crisis management programming and interventions at the request of a faculty, staff or administrator.

Additional Resources

Referring a Student to the Counseling Center

If you become aware that a student is having personal, academic, or social problems it is often useful to ask: "Are you talking with anyone about this?" If you feel that the student would benefit from a referral for counseling, it is usually best to express your concern and recommendation directly to the student. It is also generally better to suggest counseling to a student and allow the student to make his or her own decision. But if a student needs help immediately, offer to call the Counseling Center with the student present. If you call the Counseling Center on behalf of a student, identify yourself and explain to the receptionist that you are assisting a student in making an appointment, then allow the student to speak to the receptionist to arrange an appointment time. (For more information, see Making a Referral.)

Services for Faculty and Staff:

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The University recognizes that alleviating personal, family, or work related problems of its faculty, staff and admin may result in improved functioning for both the individuals and the organization. An EAP is housed in the Counseling Center and assists University employees and their families with these difficulties. Qualified professionals provide evaluation and recommendations, short-term personal and career counseling, referral, consultation, crisis intervention, seminars and groups. Services are confidential and free of charge.
