The Sulphur Springs K-8 School
The Sulphur Springs K-8 School & Master of Arts in Elementary Teaching Partnership
This partnership, funded in part by the Conn Foundation, strives to build a pipeline of highly effective, committed teachers for the Sulphur Springs community. This partnership is:
- For MAT students- those students with a bachelor's degree in a field outside of education who are returning to school for a master's degree in education and an elementary teaching certification.
- Supported by USF faculty who are committed to working in an up-and-coming urban school context.
- Collaboratively developed and implemented by Sulphur Springs K-8 School and USF faculty.
Addressing the call to prepare effective teachers by seamlessly connecting theory and practice, this program infuses field experiences with university coursework, providing MAT students the opportunity to practice new skills in an elementary classroom setting. Students participating in the Partnership spend at least two semesters (one part-time and one full-time) in the elementary classroom working side-by-side with a master teacher, collaborating with content coaches and lead teachers, and attending school-based professional development workshops. Our goal is to build a teaching force prepared to work in a high-need yet innovative environment, with teachers committed to working at Sulphur Springs K-8 School and other similar schools.
