Final Internship Placement
The Clinical Education Office, in cooperation with academic departments and the county school system, will determine a suitable placement for your final internship.
It is imperative that upon submission of your final internship application, you identify any special accommodations for extenuating circumstances that may be needed during your final field experience. All extenuating circumstances must be well-documented and will be reviewed by the Clinical Education Office to best accommodate your needs.
The collaborating/cooperating teacher you will be placed with must meet specific eligibility criteria. They must:
- Have requested an intern
- Have a valid Florida teaching certificate in the field of your chosen major
- Have at least three years of teaching experience
- Have earned an "effective" or "highly effective" rating on the prior year's performance evaluation, or be a peer educator under the district's evaluation system.
- Have completed clinical education training
Internship sites include the entire spectrum of sites in the various counties served by USF; however, secondary education majors cannot intern in Sumter County. Furthermore, early childhood, elementary, and special education majors (on the Tampa campus) can only intern in Hillsborough or Pasco County. Music education majors can only intern in Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk.
Each county may specify additional criteria for collaborating/cooperating teachers.
