Elizabeth Strom, Ph.D., Director
Dr. Strom's research has focused on urban planning decisions pertaining to the city of Berlin after Germany's reunification. Ongoing work examines arts, culture, and urban development in U.S. cities, as well as the causes and consequences of mortgage foreclosures in Florida. Professor Strom has published extensively, and her work has been funded by the Social Science Research Council, the McCune Foundation, the Fulbright program, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Lance Arney, Ph.D., Associate Director
Lance earned a Ph.D. in Applied Anthropology from USF. He uses community-based participatory research methods to study the impacts of poverty, inequality, and criminalization. He is interested in exploring how university–community engagement can help foster social justice and create transformative learning in communities impacted by poverty. Barbara Lamphere, Administrative Assistant
Barbara has more than 11 years of USF experience, including work with Grants, Human Resources, and administrative support in such departments as English, Advancement, and the Registrar's Office. In addition to supporting her family's sports activities, Barbara works as a volunteer with 4-H equine activities in Florida. She believes that children benefit from the positive youth development programs offered by 4-H as well as the level of responsibility that is obtained by caring for and handling livestock.
