Fintech Business Plan Competition
Congratulations to 2018 Fintech Business Plan Competitions Winners:
Jacob Barrineau from Band.It ( https://www.camerabandit.com/)
On April 28, 2018, the Center for Entrepreneurship at USF hosted the 9th Fintech Business Plan Pitch Competition; the premier event for entrepreneurial projects at the University of South Florida. This journey of entrepreneurial transformation in the Tampa Bay area has been possible due to the generosity of Scott Riley and the involvement of Fintech as the main sponsor. Since this competitions inception, eight out of nine of the winners have developed their business ventures, and almost 90% of the participants have remained involved in the Tampa Bay business ecosystem
This year's event was hosted at the Muma College of Business boardroom where eight USF entrepreneurs were selected to pitch their businesses to a panel of judges and compete for the $15,000 winner-takes-all award. A wide variety of ideas were presented ranging from augmented reality children books, online selling platforms to healthcare devices. This year's panel of judges included representatives from Fintech, Scott Riley (CEO and Founder) and Tad Phelps (President).
This year's winner was Jacob Barrineau, co-founder of Band.it. His innovation is a soft elastic silicon band that stretches over the zoom and focus rings of camera lenses. The purpose of band.it is to stop wear and tear on camera lenses while offering improved grip and comfort for photographers. Jacob is a second-year finance student at the Muma College of Business. He intends on pursuing a double major in finance and accounting while at USF to support his current entrepreneurial ventures. He started his first company, RDM, as a junior in high school which has flourished into a successful prototyping firm that spawned his photography accessory company called Band.it. On Friday, May 18, 2018, Jacob represented USF at the Statewide Collegiate Competition hosted by the Florida Venture Forum.
