USF Launches Big Data and Analytics Initiative
Programs Centralized to Meet the Demands of a Growing Marketplace
TAMPA, FLA. – This summer, to help meet the growing marketplace demand for data-driven analytics and business intelligence skills, USF will launch the Big Data at USF initiative. Featuring a new website at http://www.usf.edu/innovative-education/big-data/programs/, the initiative aims to highlight degrees and certificate programs available in this burgeoning field.
Emerging technology has made collecting and using vast amounts of data to transform businesses a relatively new need. However, a wide spectrum of industries from manufacturing to e-commerce and health care already make critical decisions and technological predictions with the help of data analytics.
Glassdoor.com ranks the job title data scientist as the number one best job in America. Ratings were based on the number of job openings, salary and career opportunities. Additionally, the website reports that the median salary for a data scientist is projected at over $100K per year.
Big Data at USF is an interdisciplinary effort spanning several colleges within the university and will grow to include multiple certificate offerings, undergraduate majors and minors and master's degree programs. Students who enroll in these programs will acquire a unique set of skills that are rapidly growing in demand.
The first offerings under the Big Data umbrella include bachelor's and master's degrees in business analytics and information systems from USF's Muma College of Business and their Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department.
Master's degree applications are now being accepted for the Spring 2017 term and bachelor's degree applications for the Summer and Fall 2017 term. For more information, visit http://www.usf.edu/innovative-education/big-data/programs/
