More and more health related professionals, especially physicians and nurses, are finding a need to understand basic concepts in epidemiology and biostatistics in order to perform their professional duties more efficiently. New research findings and publications challenge the professionals to translate these data into day-to-day practice. Health professionals desiring to conduct or get involved in clinical trials find it difficult to understand and comprehend what it takes to run a successful clinical trial due to lack of sufficient training in this area in medical school. Whether the need is professional, academic, or simply to become a more health conscious consumer, understanding principles of epidemiology and its application in clinical arenas has become a necessity. This certificate provides health professionals with the necessary coursework for a broad understanding in core concepts in epidemiology, biostatistics, clinical trials and related computer skills.

Applicants must hold an earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, or its U.S. equivalent, in any health related field, for example, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, etc. International students must provide a certified copy of their transcripts showing equivalency. In addition, applicants must have:
3.0 minimum GPA
Quantitative skills as demonstrated by previous courses in algebra, etc.
GRE scores, through not required, may be used to demonstrate quantitative skills.

*Independent study will be used to develop skills using knowledge gained in the classroom and allow students to focus on a specific area of clinical epidemiology.

Up to 12 hours of certificate course credits may be applied to a graduate degree with departmental approval
GRE testing is not required for admission to the certificate program. However, the GRE is required for admission to the graduate degree program. International students must submit a TOEFL score when English is not the native language. A minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test or 79 on the web-based test is required.
