STEM Academy: Science & Medicine

STEMACAD

Dates:  June 10-16, 2017

Overview:

This academically intensive, six-day, residential summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors is designed to directly involve students in hands-on inquiry, discovery, creativity and research across a broad array of disciplines that impact medicine and the health professions. Academy scholars will be exposed to basic, clinical and translational research.

During the academy, scholars will engage with USF's internationally-recognized faculty in a variety of world-class facilities housed in USF's College of Medicine, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Public Health, College of Engineering, College of Pharmacy, and Moffitt Cancer Center.

To help the scholars understand the importance of the liberal arts and creativity in critical thinking and problem solving, they will work in groups to develop a creative solution to a Grand Challenge Problem related to a topical health area. The academy will culminate with a closing program where each group of scholars presents their creative solutions through performance to parents, academy staff, and USF faculty and administrators.
