Communicate and Collaborate at USF with Skype for Business

Skype for Business (formerly called Lync) is now available to USF faculty and staff in Tampa and Sarasota for instant messaging, voice communications and video conferencing.

Connect across the University to easily collaborate, share your desktop or check someone's availability.  Skype connects with your Office 365 calendar to show your presence status.  It can be used with your PC, tablet, smartphone or Mac.

Beginning November 4th 2016, IT will remotely install the Skype 2016 client to managed PCs on the USF Tampa Main Campus and Sarasota Campus.

Skype for Business is a great tool for collaboration and communication. You can use the core functionality (text communication, presenting application content and sharing entire desktops) with just your computer.  Other features are improved by the use of a webcam, microphone and speakers.

Skype for Business can be used for:

Instant messaging

Connect with a colleague to text chat, share content from programs like PowerPoint or even your entire desktop. One- and two-way video and audio communication are available with appropriate accessories.

Meetings and instant messaging with more than two participants

Connect with multiple people or an entire team through the cloud for the same chat, sharing and audio/video communication (with appropriate accessories) capabilities.

Sharing Files

Sharing files in Skype for Business is easy.  The maximum size of a file that can be transferred is unlimited.

Tagging

Right-click a colleague's name and "Tag for status alerts" to get a pop-up notification when their availability changes. This can help minimize your need to refer back to the Skype window periodically if waiting for a contact to become available.

Skype for Business brings people together, increases collaboration and saves the cost of traveling as well as time!
