IT Notice - Meltdown and Spectre Vulnerabilities

USF Community Members,

You may have recently heard about the 'Meltdown and Spectre' system vulnerabilities in the media. These hardware bugs are more widespread than the typically identified vulnerabilities, as they affect a wider range of devices including, but not limited to, Windows and Mac (iOS) based computers, tablets and mobile phones.

Please be aware that USF Information Technology teams have already begun working to apply fixes for these vulnerabilities and to protect the university's business systems and data. Windows desktop machines managed by IT will be patched remotely as is typical with regular updates.

If your USF computer is not managed by IT, you can email the following support desks for assistance:
USF Tampa and USFSM:
USF Health:

Technology experts recommend that individuals make sure personal devices are up to date with the latest patches from your providers. As always, we encourage USF community members to follow this same advice. This includes security patches and updates for computers, tablets, and phones.
