Brewing Apps and Economic Development in Milwaukee

Monday, March 3
2:30pm - 3:30pm

Plaza Room 2708

University of Wisconsin

Presenters: Michael Hostad and Quinn Madson
Level: Basic

Description:
After launching the UW Milwaukee's institutional mobile app, there was a strong interest from students who wanted to learn how to build them.  This presentation will discuss how the App Brewery was started, funded and how it's making a difference in Milwaukee.

What's the App Brewery?
Learn about the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's innovative mobile development program, App Brewery. Working from offices housed in a former Pabst Brewing ice house, UWM's App Brewery employs students who apply mobile development skills learned in class to real world projects for researchers, non-profit organizations, local government and start-up entrepreneurs. The program helps fill a skill gap in the Milwaukee area by connecting students with local employers. The App Brewery also reaches beyond higher education through its unique training programs targeting middle school and high schools in an effort to expand the area's skills pipeline.
