What We Do

International Student Confidentiality

In the United States, your counseling information is confidential and will not be disclosed to anyone outside the Counseling Center's professional staff without your written permission.  This means that your counselor cannot provide any information about you or what you discuss with your counselor to any campus department, INTO USF staff, your home government, the U.S. government, your friends, or your parents without your written consent.

However, Florida law establishes that confidentiality may be waived under the following circumstances:

  • You are considered at risk for harming yourself
  • You are considered a risk for harming others
  • Cases of child abuse
  • Cases of abuse of elderly or disabled persons
  • Court order is received that requires the release of your counseling records for legal proceedings

Additional limits to confidentiality apply for students under the age of 18. If you have any questions about confidentiality, please contact the Counseling Center at 813-974-2831.
