Office History

Located on the Tampa Campus, the Office of Veteran Success has served the needs of student veterans and their families since 1973.

The Office of Veteran Success started out in 1973 as the Office of Veterans Services.  The Office of Veteran Success offers specialized programs, within a supportive learning-centered environment, to veterans and eligible dependents. These programs facilitate personal adjustment and foster the acquisition of knowledge and experience necessary for academic success, personal growth, wellness, and lifelong learning. In addition to veterans, those who benefit from the services in Office of Veteran Success include active duty personnel, reservists, guardsmen, and dependents.

Recognizing the needs of this specialized student population, in January 2010, USF hired a Director of Veterans Services to provide more comprehensive services for veterans on campus.  Over the next 4 years, the office quickly transitioned from an office that only processed education benefits to an office that became a one-stop shop for all veterans needs.  In 2014, the Office of Veterans Services received a $235,000 grant from JPMorgan Chase that allowed the office to pilot a veteran academic, mentoring, and employment program.  At this point in time, the office transitioned from an office that only provides services, to an office that now focused on student success.

In 2016, the Office of Veterans Services changed its name to the Office of Veteran Success.  Our office is now a holistic veteran program designed to help the students from admissions to a suitable career.  Today, our office has an Associate Director, a VA VetSuccess on Campus Counselor, an Assistant Director, two Coordinators, an office manager, an Admissions Specialist, one full time and 2 part time Certifying Officials, and over 30 VA work study student employees.
