About Us

Office History

Located on the Tampa Campus, the Office of Veterans Services has served the needs of student veterans and their families since 1973.

The Office of Veterans Services offers specialized programs, within a supportive learning-centered environment, to veterans and eligible dependents. These programs facilitate personal adjustment and foster the acquisition of knowledge and experience necessary for academic success, personal growth, wellness, and lifelong learning. In addition to veterans, those who benefit from the services in Office of Veterans Services include active duty personnel, reservists, and dependents.

Veterans Services is committed to aiding in veterans' transition into civilian and academic life. Currently, our primary role is to assist students in accessing VA Educational Benefits in order to initiate, continue or resume their education. Tracking and certification of veterans students' academic progress is centrally managed through our office for students throughout the USF system. The office assists in evaluating prior military credit, life experience, and college credit in collaboration with the Admissions Office and Undergraduate Studies. When active duty overlaps registration deadlines or semester cycles, the office coordinates with the Registrar's Office to resolve resignation issues and with Student Financial Services to waive late registration fees.

Recognizing the needs of this specialized student population, in January 2010, USF hired a Director of Veterans Services to provide more comprehensive services for veterans on campus. Today, our office also has an Associate Director, A VA VetSuccess on Campus Counselor, an Assistant Director, one full time and 2 part time Certifying Officials, 3 Program Coordinators, and over 15 VA work study student employees.
