Biography
Chris McRae (PhD, Southern Illinois University Carbondale) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication. Dr. McRae is course director for ORI 3004 (Communication as Performance). He is also Book Review Editor for Liminalities: A Journal of Performance Studies. He specializes in performance studies and critical communication pedagogy.
Dr. McRae’s research is focused on listening as a performative act, performances of music and sound, and performative pedagogy. His work appears in journals such as Text and Performance Quarterly, Liminalities, and Communication Education. He is author of three books: Listening for Learning: Performing a Pedagogy of Sound and Listening (Peter Lang 2021), Performative Listening (Peter Lang, 2015), and is co-author of A Practice Session for Pedagogy: Creating Performances for Teaching and Learning co-authored with Aubrey Huber (Palgrave 2017).
