BIOGRAPHY

Ana Vidal is pursuing her Master's degree in Communication at the University of South Florida. She received her B.A. in Communication (with a minor in Astronomy) from USF in 2022. After serving as a mechanic in the United States Marine Corps from 2014 to 2019 and transitioning back to academia in 2020, Ana realized that the field of Communication helped her process her experience as a military member and veteran in unexpected and healing ways. During her undergraduate studies at USF, Ana continued to find ways to participate in the military community. She collaborated as a RA on a project interviewing military spouses about the transition associated with their service member's post-deployment reintegration and was an assistant for Breaking Barriers (2021 & 2022), a photography program for veterans hosted by the USF Contemporary Art Museum. Ana aspires to use her experience with autoethnography and interpersonal communication to help service members transition from the military and create spaces in the arts and Tampa Bay communities where individuals from both military and civilian populations can come together and break down the military-civilian divide.
