Sweetwater Organic Community Farm

Profile

Sweetwater Farm is a non-profit, community-supported urban organic farm and educational center located in the Town n' Country area of Tampa (just northwest of TIA). We are a vegetable farm with the majority of our produce being sold through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). Through our hands-on programs, visitors of all ages practice appropriate land stewardship and master sustainable agriculture techniques.

Internship Description

Some of these tasks are dependent on the day of the week.

-Seed crops in trays to be put in greenhouse
-Observation and maintenance of greenhouse/hardening shed
-Transplanting seedlings from greenhouse/hardening shed to field
-Manually weeding fields
-Harvesting crops
-Plant fertility
-Application of organically approved inputs
-Pest management
-Identification of pests and application of inputs
-Washing crops
-Setting up/breaking down Sunday market
-Tabling/outreach at community or Sweetwater events
-Organizing and leading volunteer groups
-Caring for chickens (feeding, watering, cleaning/maintaining coop)
-Following operations and guidelines for organic certification

Additional requirements and comments:
-Must wear comfortable clothes and shoes that the intern is okay with getting stained, dirty, smelly ect..
-Bring hat and water bottle -The entire internship is outside in the field!
-Most of the learning process is accompanied by manual labor

We would prefer if an intern is able to commit to the entire season (Fall and Spring terms) -We ask interns work at least 8 hours a week - Interns receive a share of vegetables during our season (variety of share based on availability after CSA members have picked up their share.)
