Sommer Mitchell obtained a Ph.D in Government from USF's School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies in May 2018. Her research focuses on international security, legitimacy, and private military and security companies. She holds an M.A. in Social Science Education from USF and has more than ten years teaching experience at the secondary and post-secondary level. She has taught Introduction to International Relations, International Human Rights, and Conflict in the World. Sommer also has experience in faculty development through her work at USF's Academy for Teaching and Learning Excellence and her role as a Professional Development Specialist for USF’s Global Citizens Project.
