Health Professions Advisor

There is 1 full-time Health Professions Advisor at USF to assist students from all majors in course selection, career advisement, pre-health requirements, recommendations, and more.

Anthony Iannelli Jr., M.Ed.

Pre-Health Advisor/ Adjunct Instructor

Anthony Iannelli Jr. is from Melbourne, FL and is an alumnus of the University of South Florida (USF). Anthony completed his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a minor in General Business Administration at USF. In addition, Anthony earned his Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in College Student Affairs at USF. He has worked across the USF campus in areas including Student Government (SG), New Student Connections (NSC), the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement (CLCE), the Center for Student Involvement (CSI), Undergraduate Studies (UGS) and the USF Chemistry Department. Currently, Anthony is a pre-health advisor and adjunct instructor at USF. He teaches SLS 2901- Academic Foundations Seminar, IDS 4930- Developing a Health Professions Portfolio and IDS 2378- Interdisciplinary Knowledge and Inquiry. In addition, Anthony is the Coordinator of the Rising Health Professionals Living Learning Community (RHPLLC) with USF Housing and Residential Education in Beacon Hall. Outside of work, Anthony likes to spend time with his family and friends, travel, workout and watch and play sports. His favorite teams are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays, USF Bulls, Orlando Magic and Tampa Bay Lightning.

 

Health Professions Certified Advisors

In addition to Mr. Iannelli Jr., select academic advisors are officially recognized by the USF Division of Health Professions Advising as Health Professions Certified and can provide pre-health advisement to students in their major/designated areas. These advisors are:

 

Health Professions Graduate Advisors 

In partnership with USF's M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in College Student Affairs (CSA) Program, the USF Division of Health Professions Advising is happy to have 1 Graduate Advisor to help assist students on their Pre-Health journey. In addition to working with students, Hailey plays a big role in further developing and assisting with many programs and initiatives within the USF Division of Health Professions Advising and the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS). This includes the Health Professions group advising sessions, the Health Professions workshops, the Rising Health Professionals Living Learning Community (RHP LLC), and much more!

Hailey

                                                             Hailey Deschamps

Hailey Deschamps is from Bristol, Connecticut, but has always considered Florida her second home. She received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in May of 2022 from Western New England University in Springfield, MA. During her time at Western New England, Hailey served in a leadership role known as Peer Advising which led her to pursuing a career in higher education. Currently, she is in her first year of working towards her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in College Student Affairs here at USF. Hailey serves as a graduate assistant for Pre-Health Professions advising, as well as supporting the Rising Health Professions Living Learning Community. Outside of school and work, she enjoys spending time with friends, reading, going to concerts, as well as listening to and talking about Harry Styles.

 

Front Desk Staff

The USF Division of Health Professions Advising Office could not operate as efficiently if it wasn't for our amazing front desk staff. Our front desk staff currently consists of a current Pre-Health students Alberto Arenas and he is here to assist you on your Pre-Health journey. Please check out some more information about Alberto below:

                                                                Alberto Arenas

Alberto Arenas was born in California but was raised and lived much of his life in Florida. He is currently a 3rd year student at USF majoring in Biomedical Sciences and minoring in Psychology with aspirations of becoming a pediatric surgeon. Outside of academic life, Alberto enjoys spending time with his friends and doing fun activities, such as gaming. He also loves to explore new places that he's never been to, clean at home, and read about the latest technological advancements/improvements from some of his favorite companies such as Apple, Tesla, and SpaceX. Currently, Alberto is in his third year as a front desk assistant with the USF Division of Health Professions Advising Office. He looks forward to continuing to assist USF Pre-Health students with their future health professional goals.

 

Special Thanks to Dr. Melvin James

We would like to thank Dr. Melvin James for his 37 years of service at USF. In December of 2020, Dr. James retired from USF. Dr. James was an integral part of the creation of Health Professions Advising at USF. He has designed many programs and helped improve service delivery of the advisement process for USF students. In addition, Dr. James served as an adjunct professor teaching courses in the Judy Genshaft Honors College, as well as portfolio courses for pre-health students. At USF, Dr. James was an expert in the area of student success, assessment, diversity and strategic planning. Congratulations to Dr. James on an amazing career and we wish him the best of luck with everything that he will continue to accomplish during his retirement!
