Director of the BizComm Center, Pat Nickinson works with faculty teaching writing-intensive classes in the Muma College of Business to help students develop professional writing and presentation skills. She trains and oversees a staff of students who provide free, high-quality one-on-one writing consultations for all business students. Nickinson also assists in writing and copyediting major reports for the college. She has co-taught courses in professional communications for MBAs and new PhD students and currently teaches a graduate-level, online writing course for intelligence analysts in USF's School of Information.

Nickinson's writing and editing skills come from writing dozens of newspaper feature stories, working as a technical writer for the Virginia Water Resources Research Center and copyediting academic manuscripts.

She earned bachelor's degrees in psychology from the University of West Florida and in communications studies from Virginia Tech, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She continued at Virginia Tech to complete a master's degree in English, with a concentration on rhetoric and composition, before earning a PhD in English from Penn State. There, she worked in a thriving tutoring center, taught both technical writing and literature courses and completed a dissertation on hero-damsel dynamics in British medieval chivalric romances. In 2001, Nickinson joined the English Department at USF, where she taught contemporary Native American and Caribbean fiction as well as composition. In 2007, Nickinson joined the USF Muma College of Business to create the BizComm Center.
