School of Accountancy
It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the newly named Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy! In recognition of her $10 million gift to the school, on February 17, 2015 the Board of Trustees of the University of South Florida voted unanimously to name us the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy at the Muma College of Business. We are honored that Ms. Lynn Pippenger has chosen to invest so significantly in our accounting program.
We believe that what Ms. Lynn Pippenger saw is the high quality of our accounting undergraduate and graduate programs, both of which have been ranked in the top 50 in the United States by the Public Accounting Report. We are among the best programs in the nation in first-time CPA exam pass rates, ranking in the top 15 in the "large programs" category. Beyond excellent teaching, however, our faculty members are also known for their cutting-edge research, which has had an impact on the accounting profession. In the 2014 Brigham Young University accounting research rankings, we are ranked number 3 in the nation in accounting information systems research, and we have been ranked number 28 in audit research for the previous 12 years.
Our accounting honors society Beta Alpha Psi continues to be one of the best in the world. Our Delta Gamma chapter of Beta Alpha Psi has earned the "superior chapter" designation for 40 consecutive years, and we are one of only two schools worldwide to have received the KPMG Gold Challenge Award for the last 5 years. I strongly encourage students new to the accounting major in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy to consider joining Beta Alpha Psi.
Last but not least, I am pleased to highlight the fact that we are the only academic unit in the Muma College of Business that has two external advisory boards. Our high-level Advisory Council consists of partners in the major international accounting firms and C-level executives from a range of organizations in the Tampa Bay area, while our Accounting Circle alumni organization is comprised of graduates of our program who are eager to stay connected and give back to the school in a variety of ways. Students benefit from our thriving connections with accounting professionals in the Tampa Bay area in dozens of ways, including classroom speakers, professional development workshops, corporate tours, and even informal social events like picnics.
We have an excellent accounting program and hope you will become part of our community at the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy.
