Analytics & Business Intelligence

Area of emphasis

This area of study enables students to develop advanced technical and analytical skills to leverage "big data" in business.  Students should select 3 courses from this list in order to be recognized for earning a specialization:

  • ISM 6217 Database Management (prerequisite for ISM 6218)
  • ISM 6218 Advanced Database Systems (prerequisite for ISM 6208)
  • ISM 6208 Data Warehousing 
  • ISM 6136 Data Mining
  • ISM 6137 Statistical Data Mining
  • MAN 6599 Logistics, Systems and Analytics
  • MAR 6936 Special Topics: Marketing Analytics
  • MAN 6347 People Analytics
  • ACG 5841 Analytics in Accounting
  • Other elective as approved by MBA Advisor

Certificate Option

Students also have the option to earn a Graduate Certificate in Analytics and Business Intelligence. If an MBA student takes 4 of the courses listed below and earns a GPA of 3.0 or higher for these courses, the student will receive a "Joint SAS/USF Certificate in Analytics and Business Intelligence," when the student uses a SAS analytics package as part of some of these courses. Specifically, graduate students will need to use SAS Enterprise Miner or an equivalent SAS analytics package in the Data Mining and Statistical Data Mining courses. The tool is provided free for class use by the SAS Institute.

In order to earn this certificate, students should apply to the certificate by going to www.gradcerts.usf.edu and should complete 4 of the following courses:

  • ISM 6136 Data Mining
  • ISM 6218 Advanced Database Systems (prerequisite for ISM 6208)
  • ISM 6208 Data Warehousing 
  • ISM 6137 Statistical Data Mining
  • ISM 6930 Statistical Programming for Business Analytics
  • ISM 6930 Big Data and E-Commerce
  • QMB 7566 Applied Multivariate Statistical Methods

Many of these courses are only offered once a year.
