Posting on Handshake
Handshake offers a number of benefits for departments who choose to post their positions here. First, Handshake keeps a record of old postings, making it very simple for you to duplicate an old posting, make any needed updates, and repost it. You can also use the system to learn about and register for recruiting events, like the On-Campus Job Fair.
On the student side, Handshake allows them to save searches for FWS or other on-campus positions, making it very easy to use. They can also mark employers as a "Favorite" and get alerts when they post a new job or register for an event.
Creating Your Handshake Account
Recruiting through Handshake at the USF Tampa Campus is based on the four Human Resources Service Centers. Click here to determine which service center your department is in.
Once you have identified your department’s service center, contact our Student Employment team to join Handshake as an employer. Include your service center in the email, and we will send you a specific Handshake login link that will walk you through the set-up of your Employer Handshake profile.
Once your profile has been created, you will be able to post your open student assistant positions through your unique service center from the Handshake employer dashboard.
Posting Your Positions
Once your request to connect to USF has been approved by the Office of Internships and Career Readiness, you can post positions for students to view and apply to. For instructions on how to post a position, view this Handshake article.
The Department of Human Resources has specific guidelines for posting FWS positions. To download a Word Document template to help you develop your FWS post, please click here. You can also reach out to your HR representative for further guidance.
Similar to GEMS, you are required to include all sections of the FWS position as noted
in the Student Employment Handbook. If you need assistance with developing your job description please reach out to
Eric Rivera, Coordinator of Student Employment at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We recommend that you post your regular student assistant and FWS positions in both Handshake and GEMS. Note that if you post in both locations all applicants that you choose to interview and hire from Handshake must be run through the GEMS platform. For guidance on GEMS requirements and training please speak with your HR service center representative.
