National Student Employment Week

During National Student Employment Week (NSEW), always the second full week of April, USF celebrates the successes of on-campus student employment by honoring the most exemplary student employee and supervisor for their work. During the week of April 8 - 14, 2018, USF marks its seventh year participating in this national celebration, initiated by the National Student Employment Association.

Celebrating National Student Employment Week

Throughout National Student Employment Week, there are number of fun and exciting events hosted by Career Services that our students and their supervisors are encouraged to attend.  Departments may also host their own celebrations for students and supervisors and you'll find resources to help you below.

Our supervisors and human resources professionals know our student employees the best. With that in mind, we want to put the importance of creating a celebration of your student employees in your hands. We've provided some helpful ideas as a starting point, but please feel free to ask questions if you are trying to plan something special during National Student Employment Week.

Remember, we're also celebrating our student employee supervisors. So if you have an outstanding supervisor, or know one, tell them thank you and that their work and leadership is appreciated!

Use #USFNSEW on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to show us how you are celebrating the efforts of our student employees and their supervisors!

We've put together a recognition tool kit to help you with creative and fun ways to recognize the students who work in your area.

Student Employee of the Year & Supervisor of the Year Awards

USF's NSEW Planning Committee, which includes representatives involved in student employment across campus, accepts nominations each year for both the Student Employee of the Year Award and the Supervisor of the Year Award. Winners are announced at the campus Celebration of Leadership Awards.  The nominations for 2018 must be submitted online using the link below by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018.

The purpose of NSEW is to recognize the important contributions made by student employees to the university. Their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm help make USF a great place to learn, grow, and work. Supervisors are given the opportunity to nominate exemplary student employees for the Student Employee of the Year Award. Student employee nominees are assessed on the following characteristics: reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism, and the uniqueness of the student's contribution to the employer.

The 2017 winner was:  Cindy Navarette
The 2016 winner was:  Aziz Batihk

Additionally, NSEW celebrates the key role that supervisors of student employees play in the success of our students. Supervisors provide more than basic job skills and career-related experiences for student employees, often serving as mentors throughout the students' years spent at USF. Students are given the opportunity to nominate their supervisor to receive the Supervisor of the Year Award. Supervisor nominees are assessed on the followed characteristics: commitment to quality of student employment opportunities, commitment to on-boarding new student employees, commitment to professional development of students, and investment in student employees' academic pursuits.

The 2017 winner was:  Cesario Borlongan, PhD
The 2016 winner was:  Aubrey Huber, PhD
