LuAnn Conforti-Brown Ph.D., MSW is a clinical instructor in the USF School of Social Work. She received her MSW from New York University School of Social Work (’85), and her Ph.D. in Existential-Humanistic Psychology from Saybrook University (’14).

Dr. Conforti-Brown practiced as a licensed clinical social worker in community mental health, child guidance, and the school system in New York for 18 years, specializing in the areas of mental health and clinical work with children and families. Before coming to USF, she worked as part of the leadership team for child welfare privatization through Northside Mental Health Center here in Tampa.

Dr. Conforti-Brown has served multiple roles in the School of Social Work since her first appointment in 2007; these include Adjunct faculty, Director of the Title IV-E Child Welfare Scholarship Program, Visiting Instructor, and her current role as Clinical Instructor. She specializes in teaching clinical practice courses in both the MSW and BSW programs. Dr. Conforti-Brown believes that effective teaching is an interactive and dynamic process that enhances the acquisition of knowledge and the practice of skills. She sees her primary task as a social work educator as providing the conditions within which students can grow and develop a professional identity based upon sound scholarship and ethically-based, evidence-informed practice.

Dr. Conforti-Brown serves on several Boards for non-profit organizations serving the needs of military veterans and child welfare clients. She was given the NASW Social Work Educator of the Year award in 2013.
