Foreign Language Education: Professional


This graduate certificate is intended for students with undergraduate degrees who are considering a career as a teacher of foreign languages. The coursework gained through this professional training option may be used toward an M.A.T.; for certification for K-12 foreign language education directly by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE); or by a school district training program.

Course Location/Delivery

This program is offered at the Tampa campus. Some courses are offered online and some courses are offered in alternative calendar formats, i.e. Saturdays and compressed summer sessions. Contact department for more details.

CEU/Licensure Credit

This certificate leads to the State of Florida teaching endorsement for Foreign Languages.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must hold an earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution or the evaluated equivalent, if the degree was received outside the U.S. and comply with the following:

Credit toward Graduate Degree

Up to 12 hours of certificate course credits may be applied to a graduate degree with departmental approval.

Standardized Tests

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required from international students when English is not the native language. A minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test or 79 on the web-based test is required. If the applicant has completed a degree at a U.S. institution, the TOEFL is not required.
