CIO/UTSB Charter


This charter establishes the USF System Technology Standards Board.  Members are appointed by the Vice President for Information Technology and represent key technology leadership across USF campuses and USF Health.

 

Mission

The purpose of the USF System Technology Standards Board is to advise the Vice President of Information Technology regarding university system-wide information technology (IT) standards and acquisition policy that will enhance the operations and business of the University by positively affecting inter-campus cooperation, coordination and interoperability, and overall business efficiency.

 

Guiding Principles

  • Leveraging/Technology – standards will be designed and established to support the academic mission and business needs of the University and align with the University’s Strategic Plan.
  • Security – protect the institution from security threats and vulnerability.
  • Facilitate Extensibility and Scalability – technology standards will accommodate additions or changes to the computing environment, including, functionality, hardware, software.
  • Align with State, Federal and Local guidelines where necessary.  Technology standards will be consistent with commonly accepted state, federal and local information technology guidelines, as necessary and USF Procurement Policy.

 

Responsibilities

  • Advise the Vice President for Information Technology on University system-wide technology standards annually or as needed.
  • Advise the Vice President for Information Technology on technology acquisition policy changes as needed, including pricing thresholds.
  • Review exceptions to the acquisition policy and advise the Vice President for Information Technology on appropriateness.

 

Objectives

  • Provide seamless operations and functionality through interoperability between institutional technology systems.
  • Enhance end-user functionality through efficient and effective infrastructure.
  • Protect the institution from security threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Maximize value by leveraging best practices in the purchasing of technology.
  • Ensure differentiating strategic mission objectives are recognized and addressed.
