Microsoft Office Pro Plus is now available free of charge for USF Students, Faculty and Staff personal devices.

Under Microsoft’s Office 365 Education program, individuals are allowed installation of Microsoft Office Pro Plus on up to five personally owned PC’s or Macs at a time using your netid@usf.edu login.  Installations can easily be managed online and will remain licensed as long as you have an active association with USF. 

USF owned computers will receive Microsoft Office from USF IT as part of the standard setup.

FAQ’s

* What is Office 365 ProPlus?
  • Office 365 ProPlus is a collection of services that allows you to collaborate and share your work.  It’s available for free to faculty, staff and students currently employed by or actively enrolled at USF. Office 365 ProPlus for students includes Office Online (Word,  Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote). Faculty and Staff use Office 365 online for free as long as employed by USF. 
  • Office 2016 may be installed up to 5 times on your personal PC or Mac as part of the licensing agreement between USF and Microsoft. Office 2016 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher.  Does not include Visio, Publisher or Visual Studio.

 * What are the eligibility requirements to install Office ProPlus:

  • You must be an active Faculty, Staff, full-time or part-time student at USF and:
  • Have a school-specific email address provided by USF that can receive external mail
  • Have internet access

 * How long can I use this plan for?

  • You can use the plan until you graduate or are no longer associated with USF.  Your eligibility may be re-verified at any time.  When your Office 365 ProPlus plan expires:
    • If you are using the full, installed Office applications, the Office applications will enter a reduced-functionality mode, which mean that you can view documents, but you cannot edit or create new documents.
    • Online services associated with the USF email address—for example, Office Online and OneDrive—will no longer work.

 *Why should I NOT install Office 2016 through this method?

  • Do NOT use this method if this is a USF owned computer. This method is only for personally owned devices.
  • Office 2016 Click-to-Run installation is incompatible with standalone Office 2013 applications. During installation if you see a warning “Stop, you should wait to install Office 2016”, the computer has specific version of Visio 2013, InfoPath 2013, SharePoint Designer 2013, or Project 2013 installed.   The installation process has to uninstall the programs listed in the warning, and you will NOT be able to install the programs again on the same computer.
  • These programs are available as a separate purchase for installation through Microsoft.

Some Known issues

* Office 2016 Click-to-Run is incompatible with Office 2013. Visio 2013, InfoPath2013, SharePoint Designer 2013, and Project 2013 will be uninstalled during the Office 2016 installation process.  The 2013 versions cannot be reinstalled on the same computer.  The 2016 versions would have to be purchased separately.

* If the USF member has an existing personal MS live account which is the same email address as their USF email address, there may be a conflict with their USF account.  Different types of account help can be found here.
