Pop-Up Blockers

Pop-up windows, or pop-ups, are windows that appear automatically without your permission while browsing websites. Some browsers have pop-up blocking turned on by default. Blocking pop-ups interfere with websites such as FAST and GEMS. If you have a 'Pop-up Blocker' enabled on your browser, you can enable the browser to recognize USF servers as trusted sites, allowing pop-ups from FAST and GEMS.


CHROME (WINDOWS)

  1. Open Chrome, click the menu icon (located in the upper-right corner).
  2. Click 'Settings'.
  3. Click 'Advanced’ at the bottom of the page.
  4. Under 'Privacy and security', click on the 'Content settings' option.
  5. Click on 'Pop-ups and redirects'.
  6. Select ‘Blocked’.
  7. On the row of ‘Allow’, click the ‘Add’ button.
  8. Enter system website then click the 'Add' button.
     

FIREFOX (WINDOWS)

  1. Open Firefox, click the menu button and select ‘Options’.
  2. Select the 'Privacy & Security’ panel.
  3. Under ‘Permissions’ select ‘Block pop-up windows’ and click the 'Exceptions' button on the right.
  4. In the 'Address of website' field, type in the system website.
  5. Click the 'Allow' button then click the ‘Save Changes’ button.
  6. Close the ‘Options’ tab.
     

INTERNET EXPLORER 11 (WINDOWS)

  1. Open Internet Explorer, click the gear icon (located in the upper-right corner).
  2. Click ‘Internet options’.
  3. On the ‘Privacy’ tab, under the ‘Pop-up Blocker’ section, select check box ‘Turn on Pop-up Blocker’.
  4. Click the ‘Settlings’ button.
  5. Enter system website and click the ‘Add’ button and then click the ‘Close’ button.
  6. Click the ‘OK’ button in the ‘Internet options’ window.


Microsoft edge (WINDOWS)

  1. Open Microsoft Edge, click the ‘More’ button (3 dots in a line, located in the upper-right corner).
  2. Click ‘Settings’.
  3. Under ‘Advanced settings’, click the button ‘View advanced settings’.
  4. Click the slider under the heading ‘Block pop-ups’ to set the slider to ‘Off’.
    • Note: In Microsoft Edge user cannot make exceptions regarding specific sites.

 

SAFARI (MAC)

  1. Open Safari, go to the URL of your system (e.g. FAST, GEMS), then click the 'Safari' menu.
  2. Click 'Preferences' and then select ‘'Websites' in the prompt window.
  3. Select 'Pop-up Windows' from the list on the left.
  4. On the row of system website, select ‘Allow’ from the dropdown list.
  5. Next to ‘When visiting other websites:’, select ‘Block and Notify’ from the dropdown list.
  6. Close the ‘Websites’ window.
