Institutional Effectiveness & Planning
Institutional Effectiveness & Planning (IE&P) facilitates internally-focused assessment and externally-focused benchmarking to enhance evidence-based planning and foster continuous improvement.
Our Institutional Effectiveness Team serves as USF's liaison to our regional accreditor, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and to the State University System's Board of Governors (BOG), for all matters related to: Accreditation and Assessment; the formation and dissolution of new academic programs, centers and institutes; partnerships with other educational institutions; and, other substantive changes. We also facilitate the assessment of academic programs through the establishment of student learning outcomes along with academic program review activities.
Our Performance Analysis Team provides data to, and analyzes data from, organizations that are interested in higher education performance metrics, including instructional costs and university rankings. We share this information with USF leadership to improve USF's position in university rankings, to support USF's efforts to secure additional performance based funding and achieve preeminence as a research university (including, eventually, membership in the prestigious Association of American Universities), and to facilitate implementation of responsibility center management budgeting at USF.
Our Special Projects Team builds predictive models and conducts statistical analysis related to the success of our students, alumni, and faculty on a wide range of topics, including student retention, the earnings of our graduates, and the impact of research conducted by our faculty. We also provide guidance related to the design of program evaluations/assessment activities and produce briefs summarizing research findings for campus stakeholders. Much of our work involves collaborations with the Planning and Assessment Team (PAT) in the Office of Student Affairs and Student Success (SASS),
In addition to the distinct contributions of each team, IE&P collectively serves as the survey research unit within ODS. We use course evaluation surveys to gather data from students about faculty and 360-degree job performance evaluation surveys to gather data from faculty and staff about Deans and other campus leaders. We also administer collaboratively developed homegrown surveys designed to assess student satisfaction and serve as coordinators of national surveys that are administered to USF students, such as the National Survey of Student Engagement. We also collaborate with our colleagues in Information Technology, Resource Management and Analysis, Research and Innovation, and other administrative units across campus on data governance and business intelligence and serve on numerous campus-wide and system-wide committees, including the First Year Composition Policy Committee, the Committee on the Status of Men, the Persistence Committee, and the USF Performance Based Funding Accountability Team.
