Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (Summer 2017)
Freeman-ASIA Scholarship (Summer 2017) - China

Cami Wilson, originally from Pensacola, FL, is a proud recipient of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (Summer 2017) and Freeman-ASIA Scholarship (Summer 2017). These awards afforded her exceptional opportunities to experience Chinese traditional culture, experience an array of delicious foods, tremendously improve her Chinese language skills in both written and oral, and make lifelong connections halfway across the world. Cami is double majoring in Microbiology and Chinese.

During the application process, she worked closely with ONS. "What made this opportunity a success was the continuous support and guidance from the Office of National Scholarships," she says. "Ms. Lauren Chambers showed continuous support and assisted me every step of the way, and also helped me realize my strengths and what makes me unique."

Cami knows these prestigious awards provide a strong foundation for her goals. "After living in China for the entire summer, I realized that it is possible for me to live in a different country that speaks a different language," she says. "I plan to combine my academic and professional interest to work in the Department of Energy either to implement legislation on recycling plastic products, or conduct research on whether bacterial enzymes can be manipulated to decompose plastic products."

In the future, she plans to pursue graduate studies in Business Administration with an emphasis on strategic management at Stanford University.

Congratulations to Cami on winning the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship!
