2017 Roy W. Likins Scholarship

Joseph Capodice, originally from Sarasota, FL, is a proud recipient of the 2017 Roy W. Likins Scholarship. His national scholarship win afforded him the opportunity to conduct research focused on recirculating aquaponics systems. These systems allow for production of saltwater fish and organic vegetables while producing minimal waste.

He attributes his success to the USF network he formed during his degree program. "USF has provided me with a plethora of opportunities," says Joseph. "The Engineering Living Learning Community gave me a platform to grow as a leader."

Joseph feels fortunate to have this national scholarship award as he pursues graduate study.

"This scholarship has provided me the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who have helped further my career. Also, when applying to graduate school having scholarships such as the Roy W. Likins Scholarship for the American Water Works Association will make me stand out in the graduate admissions process," says Joseph.

He plans to pursue his Ph.D. in environmental engineering with a focus on the removal of prescription drugs in water. Ultimately, he would like to become a research professor in his field.

Congratulations to Joseph on winning the Roy W. Likins Scholarship award!
