Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (Summer 2017) - Study Abroad in Mexico and Brazil

Kadeem Thomas, originally from Tampa, FL, is a proud recipient of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (Summer 2017). This award afforded him the opportunity to create an event for 50 students interested in study abroad. The international event involved collaboration with the Education Abroad Office and Office of National Scholarships, among others.

He credits this award with his ability to encourage other students to be global citizens. "Not only did the scholarship help fund my summer [abroad] so I could learn Spanish in Mexico and Portuguese in Brazil, but they also helped me with my writing skills and ideas to inspire other students to get global," he says. "This award set me on the path to success."

After graduation, he plans to join the Peace Corps and assist with food security in Nepal for two years. After serving in the Peace Corps, he plans to go to law school then join the Foreign Officers Service program with the goal of becoming an ambassador to an African nation.

Congratulations to Kadeem on winning the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship!
