2017 Fulbright US Student Program English Teaching Assistantship to Germany

Kathryn Ashmore is originally from Pembroke Pines, FL, and a proud recipient of the 2017 Fulbright US Student Program English teaching assistantship in Germany. Her Fulbright win afforded her the opportunity to teach in Germany, where she currently serves as an English teacher for middle school and high school students. Kathryn visits various classes and focuses on pronunciation and familiarity with common English phrases, especially colloquial phrases. She also facilitates classroom discussion regarding American culture and school life.

She worked closely with the Office of National Scholarships during the Fulbright application process. "ONS, especially Ms. Lauren Chambers, was instrumental in the process of applying," she says. "I began working with Ms. Chambers during my freshman year to apply for the Fulbright UK Summer Institute Program. Despite not receiving the scholarship, Ms. Chambers assisted me with my two subsequent applications for the Fulbright English teaching assistantship".

Kathryn feels this award prepared her for exactly what she wanted to do – teach German and English language in the USA. She attributes her success to the confidence her family has in her to achieve her goals.

After completion of her English teaching assistantship, Kathryn plans to teach German and English language while pursuing a graduate degree in teaching, with emphasis on German and English.

Congratulations to Kathryn on her 2017 Fulbright English teaching assistantship!
