Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (NIST-SURF)

Matlock Mennu, originally from Germantown, Maryland, is a proud recipient of the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST-SURF) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship. This award afforded him the opportunity to conduct research on Micro Air Vehicles for his PhD in Aerospace engineering program.

He credits USF and ONS with opening doors to new opportunities. "USF gave me the community in which I can comfortably operate and friendships which have helped along the journey," he says. "USF and ONS gave me several resources and opportunities as an undergraduate student that I would not have pursued otherwise. This helped me figure out what I want to do going forward."

He attributes his success to God's grace, hard work, and commitment to serving others.

In the future, he plans to finish his PhD and start his career as a research expert at one of the world's top commercial flight companies.

Congratulations to Matlock on winning the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST-SURF) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship!
