Dr. Brooke Hansen & the SDG Action Alliance
Dr. Brooke Hansen, Director of Sustainable Tourism and Director of the SDG Action Alliance, has been designated as an Academic Affiliate in the Center for Responsible Travel (CREST) for 2021. In that role, she mentors PCGS interns for CREST and collaborates on research for impact tourism and post-Covid-19 recovery. In addition to her work in sustainable tourism, she also closely collaborates with the CLEO Institute on climate, health, and food justice classes, webinars, and state-wide collaboration to move the needle on UN Sustainable Development Goal 13 Climate Action. She was a speaker for the Nov. 19-21 Climate & Health Symposium that featured a number of influential presenters, including John W. Roulac, Executive Producer of the powerful film Kiss the Ground. The Symposium explored the intersections between the climate crisis and human and planetary health. https://cleoinstitute.org/eccc-2020-climate-and-health-symposium/.
The SDG Action Alliance is completing its first year at USF’s premiere UN partnership. During the fall semester, two interns were appointed: Leah Mowery (Coverdell Fellow) as the Communications and Project Coordinator and Courtney Wright as the Youth and Global Citizens Coordinator. PCGS student groups led by the SDG AA team worked on preparing the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021 SDG Report and collaborated with Whit Remer, Sustainability and Resiliency Officer for Tampa, on aligning the SDGs with the City of Tampa. Intern positions are open for spring for fundraising, community engagement (including serving on the Green Team for Super Bowl LV in Tampa), and more. Dr. Hansen is the SDG Action Alliance Director and will be taking applications until January 30, 2021 (email for info kbhansen@usf.edu).
