Sustainability Podcast: Sustainability Nuggets with PCGS Alumni Rarosue Amaraibi and Tosin Folorunso

The Patel College of Global Sustainability has always been committed to support our alumni throughout their career paths. Among our brilliant graduates, Rarosue Amaraibi and Tosin Folorunso from Nigeria have started a sustanability podcast named Sustainability Nuggets. First broadcasted in 2020, Sustainability Nuggets helps people evision sustainability by exposing them to innovative projects and initiatives from corporations, government agencies, organizations, and businesses around the world. The three pillars, which are known as the Triple Bottom Line: People, Planet, and Profit, are the fundamentals of Sustainability Nuggets. Several topics are covered on this podcast: environmentally friendly technologies, behavioral changes, manufacturing processes, and government/business policies that ensure social, environmental, and economic balance.

Rarosue Amairaibi

Rarosue Amaraibi attained her master’s degree in Global Sustainability at PCGS with a concentration in Climate Change and Sustainability with a graduate certificate in Sustainable Energy in 2019. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering at USF with a focus on improving the cost competitiveness and enviromental impact of biogas to energy technologies. Rarosue has over 5 years of experience in biogas to energy research and sustainability education, and her projects have been funded by multiple organizations, inlcuding Shell LiveWIRE, Environmenal Research and Education Foundation, and Hinkley Center for Solid and Hazardous Waste Management. Moreover, she served as an Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Climate Corp Fellow where she worked with Nice-Pak in  leading efforts in setting energy reduction targets for the organization to align with Science Based Targets (SBT).

Tosin Folorunsirunso

Tosin Folorunso, on the other hand, is the Coordinator of Sustainability at CSUN’s Associated Students. She holds a Master’s in Global Sustainability from PCGS and began her role at CSUN in 2021. Exposed to waste and pollution issues in the fashion industry,    Tosin founded a zero-waste fashion brand in the U.S. and Nigeria from 2017 to 2020 that creates apparel and accessories from textile and plastic waste.

Sustainability Nuggets is one of the projects initated by Green Club Nigeria, a community of global citizens passionate about finding soluions to climate change and sustainability. The organization was founded by Rarosue, and Tosin performs as the Project Manager. Their objective is to methodically and gradually reinforce a more environmentaly friendly world  by raising knowledge of climate challenges and providing educations about available resources and solutions. This will enable everyone to contribute to the creation of a better, cleaner, and more secure world.

Sustainability Nuggets was listed as part of the 80 best sustainability podcasts on the web to follow in 2022 and 2023. Recently, on April 16, the podcast featured Graham Hill, Founder and CEO of Carbonauts, to discuss lifestyle practices that reduce our carbon footprint and make a positive impact. Despite starting small, Sustainability Nuggets is playing a significant role in cultivating a greener future by inspiring and educating their listeners.

Additionally, Rarosue and Tosin will attend the PCGS 10th Year Anniversary Celebration and All-Class Reunion later this year as panelists. Using Sustainability Nuggets as a case study, they will host a panel on the “Importance of Leveraging Conversations through Social Media and Podcasting to Drive Meaningful Action”
