The University of South Florida Patel College of Global Sustainability (PCGS) is partnering with an inter-agency team to help create the first regional Climate Action Plan for the Tampa Bay area, named “Clean Air Tampa Bay.”
Update: Solar C³ITIES Solutions, Co-founded by Dr. T.H. Culhane, Wins Multiple Awards at the 2023 AD and Biogas Industry Awards.
Solar C³ITIES Solutions, an organization founded by PCGS Climate Concentration Director, Dr. T.H. Culhane, focused on promoting sustainable solutions through biogas, has won four awards in three categories at the 2023 AD and Biogas Industry Awards, organized by the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association and the World Biogas Association
Dr. George Philippidis is the Associate Dean for Research and Director of Sustainable Energy at USF’s Patel College of Global Sustainability. With his prolific background in sustainability research and education, he has been making significant contributions for a cleaner lower-carbon environment.

International Collaboration in Algae Research with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece
The Patel College of Global Sustainability (PCGS) has teamed up with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in Greece to advance the commercial development of algae, a potentially sustainable source of transportation fuels and consumer products.
PCGS Sustainable Business Concentration Director, Dr. Pradeep Haldar Receives the Excellence in Civic & Community Engagement Award from the USF Office of Community Engagement.
PCGS Sustainable Business Concentration Director, Dr. Pradeep Haldar received the Excellence in Civic & Community Engagement Award as a recognition of PCGS’ partnership with the Tampa International Airport. Last semester, PCGS students in his class collaborated with TPA to review and revamp their environmental, social governance reporting efforts.

Dr. Kebreab Ghebremichael is an Associate Professor of Instruction and Director of the Water Sustainability Concentration in the M.S. program at the Patel College of Global Sustainability. Dr. Ghebremichael encourages students to explore further on their own and consult with PCGS professors to guide and support their sustainability careers.

Podcast: How To Make Biogas At Home With A Biogas Digester With Dr. T.H. Culhane On Mother Earth News
PCGS Climate Director, Dr. T.H. Culhane, appeared on the Mother Earth News’ podcast to discuss biodigester's and how to create a small homemade biogas digester that uses household “waste.” The highlight of the podcast was an interview with former PCGS student, Kenny Coogan.

“Breastfeeding: A Foundational Strategy to Strengthen Sustainability in Infant Nutrition and Development” by Dr. Joseph Dorsey and Marian Davidove, M.A., RDN
Dr. Joseph Dorsey co-authored Chapter 17 in the Routledge Handbook of Sustainable Diets with PCGS alumna and Nutritionist, Marian Davidove, M.A., RDN. The chapter is entitled “Breastfeeding: A foundation strategy to strengthen sustainability in infant nutrition and development” and highlights how initiating breastfeeding early in a child’s life is the cornerstone for implementing a sustainable diet with long-term positive effects.
Dr. Joseph Dorsey is a faculty member and Associate Dean at the Patel College of Global Sustainability. Learn more about Dr. Dorsey’s background in sustainability and his thoughts on Black History Month as we are highlighting and celebrating contributions by African Americans at PCGS.

PCGS Students Partnered with Tampa Interantional Airport (TPA) on an Electrification Study with Dr. Pradeep Haldar
By staying “on board” with the Tampa International Airport, PCGS continues to provide comprehensive collaborative projects with leaders in the industry. Students from the Sustainable Business Concentration at PCGS have been working with the Sustainability and Innovation team at Tampa International Airport to provide recommendations to achieve Net Zero goals as part of their electrification effort.
Dr. Hansen published two articles recently showcasing her work on sustainable tourism, agritourism, virtualization technologies, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The first is based on her work promoting sustainable agritourism expansion in the State of Florida and was published in the Proceedings of the 2021 FoodTreX Food Travel Research Summit by the World Food Travel Association.
