Hi and Welcome to the Counseling Center!
My name is Amelia Strickland and I am a Mental Health Counselor here at the USF Counseling Center. I am happy to be part of a caring, interdisciplinary team whose focus is on you: the student! I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, having lived in Jacksonville and earned my master’s degree in Orlando before moving to Tampa. I love spending time at theme parks, especially Disney, and I enjoy reading, crafts, and checking out new restaurants and cultural experiences in Tampa.
In my work with clients, my aim is to help each person feel empowered and equipped to handle life’s ups and downs. I believe that each person is naturally inclined towards positive growth, and that a lot of positive growth can happen within a safe, respectful, and trusting therapeutic relationship. I utilize an integrated approach based on client-centered and interpersonal therapy that draws evidence-based techniques from solution-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Clinical Interests: My interests in counseling include anxiety and depression, self-esteem and self-compassion, spiritual questioning and issues, wellness, and trauma.
Approach to Supervision/Training: Competency-Based Supervision Model
