New Requirement for Registered MFT and CMHC Interns

Recently the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) , and Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MHC) has updated the new requirement for registered MFT and CMHC interns. Registered Marriage & Family Therapist Intern

To become a Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Intern in Florida you must have:

1. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT: A minimum of a master’s degree with major emphasis in marriage and family therapy, or a closely related field from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or from a Florida university program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), and graduate coursework. Licensed Mental Health Counselor

To be licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in Florida you must have:

1. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT: Minimum of an earned master’s degree from a regionally accredited program in mental health counseling or a closely related field that consists of at least 60 semester hours or 80 quarter hours. Beginning July 1, 2025, an applicant must have a master’s degree from a program that is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) which consists of at least 60 semester hours or 80 quarter hours to apply for licensure under this paragraph.
