A milestone for USF’s strategic plan and our next steps

Dear USF community,

I’m excited to share that this week we presented USF’s new five-year strategic plan to the Florida Board of Governors, and it was approved unanimously.  This important milestone could not have been achieved without the valuable contributions from many of you, along with our other stakeholder groups around the Tampa Bay region and the state of Florida, as we sought your valuable input throughout the process.  I also want to take a moment to give a special thank you to the members of our Strategic Planning Steering Committee for their tireless work over the last several months and the Strategic Planning Advisory Taskforce for their invaluable contributions.

Our strategic plan, titled “In Pursuit of Excellence,” serves as a roadmap to advance USF’s mission over the next five years and positions the university as a powerful engine of prosperity for the future.  Together, we’ll use the plan as a guide for serving our students and addressing critical challenges within our communities.  We are proud to be America’s fastest-rising university, a journey guided by our goals and vision, and one that will help us maximize our impact by becoming a top-25 public institution.

The plan, which leverages the distinctive qualities of our three campuses in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota-Manatee, identifies five key goals, as well as a series of core commitments and strategic areas of focus.  I encourage you to visit the dynamic website we’ve launched and spend some time reviewing the plan, including USF’s institutional mission, vision, aspirations and values.  In keeping with our longstanding commitment to performance accountability, the website allows us to update the progress toward our goals.

This plan wasn’t designed to sit on a shelf, collecting dust.  As we look ahead to its implementation beginning on July 1, 2022, we need everyone’s help to ensure its success.  In the coming months, we will be meeting with our deans and academic and administrative leaders to develop and operationalize unit-based strategic plans and priorities that align with our institutional plan and goals.

I look forward to our work together to pursue excellence and take our great university to new heights.

Sincerely,

Rhea F. Law
President
