USF EM Ultrasound Department: Meet Our Amazing Team!

I’m incredibly proud to introduce our ultrasound team to you all. Why choose us? Great question! Here are just a few reasons why our team stands out.

We Have an Incredible Team

Did I say incredible? Yes, I did! Our ultrasound team consists of four dedicated members:

derr Dr. Derr – Our Ultrasound Fellowship Director

Dr. HansenDr. Hansen – Our Ultrasound Residency Director

Dr. MartinezDr. Martinez – One of our talented fellows

danielDr. Mbom (that’s me!) – Another passionate fellow

Together, we bring expertise, enthusiasm, and a love for ultrasound to every case we encounter.

We Are Always Available

We take responsiveness seriously. No matter the time—day or night—our team is always just a message away. Whether it's discussing an interesting case or tackling a challenging ultrasound interpretation, we’re here to help.

Just two weeks ago, one of our interns reached out at 1 AM about a case of pericardial effusion concerning for tamponade. Guess what? Dr. Martinez responded immediately! That’s right—we don’t sleep when it comes to supporting our team and sharing our passion for ultrasound.

We Perform TEE in the ED

Yes, you heard that right! We perform transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in the emergency department—during cardiac arrests.

Thanks to Dr. Derr’s relentless efforts, TEE is now approved for various clinical uses in our ED. While many programs offer TEE training through classes and rotations, actually performing TEE in the ED during a cardiac arrest is almost unheard of. That makes our program truly special.

Want to Learn More? Come Hang with Us!

If these reasons aren’t enough to convince you, come spend some time with us! We’d love to share more about what makes our ultrasound team one of the best.
