USF Health Kidney Stone Center of Excellence: Comprehensive Care for Kidney Stone Patients

The USF Health Kidney Stone Center of Excellence is dedicated to providing advanced care for patients suffering from kidney stones. The center combines dietary advice, medication, and the latest surgical techniques to prevent and manage kidney stones effectively. Led by experienced endourologists and dedicated urologists, the center specializes in helping patients find relief from the painful symptoms associated with kidney stones.

Dr. David Hernandez, Associate Professor of Urology, Chief of Division of Endourology, and Director of the USF Kidney Stone Center of Excellence, emphasizes the importance of prevention: "Within five years of having a kidney stone, about 50 percent of patients will have another one. And within ten years, 75 percent of patients will have another one. And so really emphasizing prevention is going to be key."

The center offers a range of surgical options tailored to each patient's needs, including Shock Wave Lithotripsy (SWL), Ureteroscopy, and Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL).

By offering these advanced surgical options, along with personalized dietary advice and medication, the USF Health Kidney Stone Center of Excellence aims to provide comprehensive care for patients suffering from kidney stones, helping them find relief and prevent future occurrences.
