The graduating class of 2025 had a remarkable surge in applications and acceptances to unique physical therapy residency programs across the nation. This trend reflects the ongoing growth in students pursuing these opportunities within our Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, a trajectory that has been steadily ascending over the past three years. This year, we proudly announce that eleven of our students have earned coveted spots in various residency programs, both within the state of Florida and nationally.
The upsurge in interest towards residencies comes as no surprise to our faculty and staff, given our program's steadfast commitment to fostering lifelong learning. We firmly believe that education and knowledge are perpetual pursuits, extending far beyond graduation. We continue our rich history of providing students post graduation opportunities, one being through our collaborative Tampa Bay PT Residency Showcase. Now in it's third year, this program brings together students from USF, Florida Southern College, Nova Southeastern University Tampa, and Gannon University Ruskin to connect with residency programs and learn about various opportunities.
Our program also provides lunch and learn opportunities for students to learn about the importance of residency education, and also provide insight to the process. These are often lead by our own USF Health Physical Therapy Residency faculty and mentors. Melissa Lazinski, PT, DPT, DSc, DPT Program Director said "These acceptances are a testament to the hard work and dedication our students put in, and that our graduates attract attention from some highly competitive residency programs. We try to instill in our students that life-long learning is an important part of being a successful physical therapist, and that you must always strive to be better for yourself and your patients."
