Industrial engineers (IEs) strive to find innovative ways to improve the design and function of products, processes, and integrated systems comprised of people, material, information, equipment, and energy. IEs differ from other trained engineers by their systems view of the world, as well as their broad understanding of the business impact of engineering decisions. IEs draw upon knowledge of not only the mathematical, statistical, and physical sciences, but also in the social sciences, and management, in particular. One of the strengths of IEs is that their skills are in demand in all sectors of the economy including financial services, communications, healthcare, entertainment, and manufacturing. Thus, our program attracts students with diverse backgrounds and with broad career goals. In order to best serve our diverse student body, the IMSE faculty and staff are dedicated to creating an environment for student success through innovative teaching, comprehensive mentoring and career development, and cutting edge research and innovation.
